Civil War Traveling Trunk

This traveling education trunk brings the Civil War era to life through lesson materials, activities, worksheets, and reproduction historical objects that help students understand how the conflict affected soldiers, families, and communities close to home.
Students will learn about North Carolina’s role in the Civil War, the causes and major events of the conflict, and the experiences of people living in the region. The trunk encourages students to explore local history, including life on the home front, military service, agriculture and industry, communication, and the challenges faced by families during wartime. Interactive activities and primary-source materials provide students with opportunities to connect national events to the history of their own communities.
Designed for ages 8 to 13, the trunk gives learners a hands-on way to discover how the Civil War shaped North Carolina and the people who lived through this pivotal period in American history.
