Third and Fourth Grade Teachers
We wish to bring to your attention the Kings Mountain Historical Museum’s tour for students and teachers in the third and fourth grade.  The Museum Exhibit Hall is located in the 1939 Post Office building in the City of Kings Mountain, where four to five exhibits are presented each year.  On the Museum Commons, you will find two relocated 19th century structures, the Robert Barber and George Washington Cornwell houses.

The Barber House was built in the second quarter of the 19th century and is now ready for interpretive tours on lifestyles and domestic skills practiced in the western piedmont.  Robert Barber owned and operated a farm consisting of over 800 acres of land in the White Plains area of Cleveland County.

The second 19th century structure is the George W. Cornwell House built in 1876, two years after the City of Kings Mountain was incorporated.  The house was originally located on King Street.  George Cornwell was the town’s wagon maker.  This house is used to interpret the early development of the City of Kings Mountain and its founding fathers.  The restoration is on going at this time.

The Museum is offering a 60 to 90 minute tour time to see all the facilities.  The guided tour of the current exhibit in the Exhibit Hall will also include a special hands-on activity.  The tour of the Robert Barber House includes a domestic skill demonstration such as spinning, weaving, or yarn dyeing.   At this time the tour of the Cornwell House will only include an interpretation of the history of the City.

Tours are provided during the week from 9:00am – 3:00pm.  Tours must be reserved in advance to schedule docents and demonstration interpreters.    Please call 704-739-1019,
